About the Artist

Erica McGloin is a New York City based interdisciplinary artist presently residing in Philadelphia, PA. She began studying fine art at thirteen years old, and received her high school diploma in visual arts at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

Erica was recently inspired by her experiences working as an intern youth & family counselor at the VNSNY FRIENDS Clinic (Bronx, NY) and as an intern clinic facilitator at the Social Enrichment Center (Springfield, PA), as well as by her persistent interest in social activism and political theory. She is primarily concerned with individual and collective manifestations of trauma, and the relationship between trauma and the body. Erica intends to communicate how trauma functions as a political force, and strengthens existing societal paradigms. In her current work, she investigates inherently traumatizing aspects of womanhood, specifically how compulsory femininity alienates women from their bodies.

In 2019, Erica received her B.A. in Visual Studies at Tyler School of Art of Temple University, and also completed two minors in Psychology and Anthropology.
